08 May 2017 – Sonnet
(to the United States House of Representatives)
It must have felt this way – hearts seized with fear –
to watch the Reichstag rise, and with one voice,
rejoice to do away with all held dear
not very long before! Our nations choice
of thugs and thieves – all singing Christian hymns –
now falls upon our neck like boots of brass.
Greed’s god now reigns, the common good grows dim,
and sheep compete to feed the heartless class.
“So stoke their fires, then go kindly die,
and let’s hear no more nonsense from the past!
A new world springs from where compassion lies!
Let sickness take those we’ve no time to gas!”
To “good ‘ol days” departed we now add
whatever future we once thought we had.
