18 Jan 2017 – Consumption

Such raging hunger
never burned the Western hills!
My sole desire
was to drown this shaking flesh
deep in another.

I swilled the oceans,
licked the rim and swallowed salts,
and – cramped with cravings –
found myself bone-dry, a hole
of howling hungers.

God’s love inverts this,
doesn’t gnaw the house to dust
as we, the termites
with these black-holes in our hearts
do – being stardust.
