14 Nov 2016 – Sonnet
Most of us possessed with heads of hardwood,
hearts of granite, ears attuned to clatter.
Steady loss of feeling starts in childhood,
feed at school until the antimatter
of our people’s dread, passed down, digested,
has eradicated lovingkindness.
So we live in ghettos now infested
with our own kind, gerrymandered blindness,
spewing forth our fears, completely callous,
no concern for how they fall on other’s ears,
easily construed as spiteful malice,
defensive stances read as racial sneers.
Our ‘righteous loner’ myths point us towards hell.
We need each other, time to learn it well!
