29 Jul 2016 – Sonnet

During the forty day fast of Advent,
when everyone’s mad in a spending spree,
shunning the shopping malls, I put the accent
on solitude, peacefulness, feeling free.
One hundred and one days of Facebook hate
until an election for friends to fling
their partisan news stories, all so sate
with half truths and lies about wannabe kings.
Maybe it’s time that I took a short break,
wait til it’s over and buyer’s remorse
sets in as everyone eats their own cake,
after the trial by ordeal runs its course.
I’ll be back shortly once everyone votes,
I’m not a jackass – don’t feed me such groats!
