19 Jul 2016 – On Fear

Having been homeless,
hid in basements, lived in doubt,
I know for certain
fear’s a flame that sears the soul,
robbing eyes of sleep.

Only a fool boasts,
bragging what tomorrow brings
lies in his knowing,
claiming famine, fear, and war
are not his problems.

How can a man live,
knowing that the winds must blow
and there’s no rudder,
knowing there’s no safety here
but God’s compassion?
