20 Feb 2016 – A Love Song to Winter

A wonder once seen from afar:
cold diamond ear rings – pointed stars,
adorned in pristine, icy lace,
blue eyes that called my deepest space.

I could not love you as a child.
My heart was by bright Spring beguiled.
But you’ve been courting through the years –
there’s joy now, love, as you draw near.

Hard labor claim my Summer years,
crops failed, resistant to my tears,
and Autumn was a mistress born
to taunt and tease with shame and scorn.

But you’ve been faithful through the years,
and wooed away each childhood fear,
and now I feel the cold winds blow,
I love you now – you know my soul.
