05 Dec 2015 – Sonnet

Shoot from the hip but someone’ll shoot back.
Say what ya like but you’ll earn no respect.
Don’t be surprised that you’re under attack,
unguarded outbursts all have side-effects.
Yes, you’ve the right to say just what you please.
No one denies it! We all see you strut!
Now days our “Rights” have devolved to disease,
losing the good sense to keep our mouths shut.
My rights and your rights collide in the streets.
Courtesy dead, things are bound to explode.
Nobody listens, but everyone speaks.
Everyone vying for time to reload.
Three hundred million wild cannons roll loose,
using our dreams now to knot our own noose.
