For my dear friends who celebrate Samhain instead of Halloweeen, a few poems over the next week…

21 Oct 2015 – Stars and Stripes and Circles

Nothing more American
than dancing underneath the stars,
blessedly unpuritan
while peeling off the rules and scars.

First to spin across the moon,
we planted kisses on her face.
Not the first to beg the boon
of new-moon starting-over grace.

Light the fires! Call the quarters,
silver dollars, apple-pie rites.
Wearing garters, guarding borders –
warm our hearts? Where else, tonight?
